Different Local Voices and Perspectives Join Thousands Across the Globe to Host a Discussion on Gender Equality & Empowerment

DALLAS, TX (April 28, 2017) – In support of 50/50 Day, a global movement on May 10, 2017, several DFW business owners and individuals will host a public screening & discussion of the acclaimed film 50/50: Rethinking the Past, Present, and Future of Women + Power from Emmy-nominated and Webby Awards founder Tiffany Shlain, one of Newsweek’s “women shaping the 21st century.”

“Our Leading Voices will facilitate a much-needed dialogue about what it will take to get to a more gender-balanced world” said Cassandra Washington, CEO & Founder of Exceed Learning & One Degree Shift and 50/50 Day Ambassador who is passionately spearheading the Dallas event.

The film takes audiences on a thrilling and eye-opening exploration of women as political leaders, winding from early human history to present day to a future where there is true equality in leadership roles between women and men.

“50/50 showcases the positive impact that women in power have created globally, and we hope that the film inspires women to harness their own power to create change in our country at this pivotal moment in time,” said Amy Emmerich, Refinery29’s Chief Content Officer.

Real Dialogue, a community forum that Washington launched this year, is a safe place for meaningful conversations on complicated subjects that shape our lives. It is not a place to argue, but a chance to contribute to an open exchange of ideas that lead to greater understanding and inspired action.

Real Dialogue: 50/50 Day Dallas event is on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 5:30 PM – 9:00 PM at Tower Club Dallas, 1601 Elm Street, 48th Floor, Dallas, TX 75201. Join this global conversation about how we can create a truly gender-balanced world that is better for everyone. Tickets sold on Eventbrite at $25 per person.

“The problem in America is not that we watch different news, it’s that we don’t talk to each other,” said Cassandra Washington. “Real Dialogue is about real people discussing real issues and taking real action!”

50/50 Day will unite thousands of participants around the globe — women, men, all genders, all ages — to screen the short film and dive into meaningful discussions on the intersection of gender and economics, health care, environment, politics, race and so much more. The number of events has climbed to over 9,000 in 44 states and 43 countries.

There are lots of fantastic partners involved. Local event sponsors include Douchka Lecot and Barb Totzke of Yana Shala, Nate Couser of The bukU Group and Operation Breakthrough Strategies Corp., Debbie Mrazek of The Sales Company. They join major 50/50 Day partners Refinery29, British Airways, Global Fund for Women, Google, Twitter, Airbnb, Pinterest, Intel… and many, many more are behind the issue and taking action to move towards gender equality.
