This quote from Jane Goodall struck me as I wrote this #MindShiftMonday message, “What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”

Each one of us has the ability to make a difference every day, whether we brighten someone’s day with our smile, or volunteer and contribute to causes like hunger, homelessness, education, or the environment. Difference Makers are motivated to make things better for the people around them – from the smallest of ways to the most extraordinary. We often think of famous Difference Makers like Bono, Oprah Winfrey, Nelson Mandela, Princess Diana, or Susan B. Anthony, but not all Difference Makers are famous.

I wrote an inspiring book called, Strengthen Your Wings: Amazing Stories for the Journey, with 18 less popular, yet equally important Difference Makers, all sharing the treasure inside their own personal story to encourage the heart of every reader. These are stories of triumph, learning, challenge, love, and hope to inspire you to BE the difference you want to see in the world. We wrote the book to encourage you on your path, yet through the process each one of us has been transformed into a version of ourselves that was simply waiting to emerge. The journey of writing and sharing our stories has strengthened our confidence and our courage. It’s no surprise really, because change, first and foremost, begins with you.

We are here to make a difference for others, not only for ourselves. And we were born to make a difference with others, not by ourselves. To live our highest purpose and make the difference we are meant to make, we cannot accomplish it by traveling solo. Difference Makers are visionaries who lead and work best in collaboration with others. Together with my One Degree Shift community of friends, we invite you to join us as we learn, connect, and grow into the great big difference-maker shoes we are called to fill.

THINK ABOUT IT

  1. What difference are you meant to make in the world?
  2. What support do you need to make your desire an even bigger reality?
  3. Do you have an encouraging and supportive community who rallies behind you and your vision, encourages you to step outside your comfort zone to reach your full potential, and allows you to lead as you achieve your goals? If you don’t, we invite you to join One Degree Shift as we achieve our big goals and visions together.
