I’ve been coaching and teaching personal growth for more than 20 years, and I get so much inspiration and fulfillment from the work I do. Witnessing others reach for their full potential and live their dream life, and knowing that I played a part in making it happen is truly a gift. I am always happy to hear from members of One Degree Shift community. It is especially rewarding when a member contacts me to celebrate a shift in perspective, a breakthrough, or an accomplishment that they have dreamed of and worked hard to achieve. Such was the case two years ago when founding member Kathi Palmer sent me an email about writing in our first anthology book, Strengthen Your Wings.

Hi Cassandra,

I loved working with you and the other ladies involved in the book!  It was a great experience because we did it as a group, helping each other in small teams. We produced a product that will help add value to others. I love how my one word comment on your Facebook post became a chapter!

I feel so proud of myself! I can’t wait to tell others because I want them to be proud of me too. There was a time when I wouldn’t receive their praise because I didn’t feel like I deserved it. I would find something negative to say about myself to deflect it because I was embarrassed. Now I just say, ‘Thank you.’ One of my goals was to write without worrying about who would read it or what they might think. I believe I accomplished that. Also, I didn’t listen to the voice in my head that discourages me. Writing in this group was definitely outside my comfort zone, but I enjoyed it.

Thank you so much Cassandra for sharing your vision with us!

Be Willing To First Take a Leap of Faith

The first book was a total leap of faith for all of us. Although I had written a leadership book previously, I had never compiled an anthology, and many of my coauthors had only dreamed of writing a book. I was empowered by their trust in my leadership and how they grabbed hold of my vision. Together we wrote an inspiring book that will out last us. The book will not only encourage each reader, but it has also motivated each one of us. I watched as each of my coauthors stretched themselves, took risks, and grew more confident. This single accomplishment gave all of us the courage to rise higher. And just a few weeks later, I received another note from Kathi. This time she had received her initial shipment of books in the mail. Until then, our dream was only a figment of our imagination; it wasn’t yet quite real. Kathi sat down and read our finished product from cover to cover.

Hi Cassandra,

I have just finished reading the book and all I can say is WOW! I love this! I have to tell you that I got all choked up again last night talking to my husband about it. It is truly something I have always wanted to do. I even went in the basement and found a book that I had written when I was 11 to show it to him. I have rejection letters from greeting card companies from years ago. Now I can finally say I was a success and that my book made the Amazon Best Seller list! Thank you so much!

I wanted to share something else I realized. Since August, I’ve done so many things that I either always wanted to do or never imagined I would do.

A few weeks ago, I participated in a flash mob. My first instinct was to say no, but instead I said yes! I practiced every day, and we performed during our business conference. Corporate was in on it and had cameras all set up!

Then I rode in stretch Hummer for the first time. Everyone was going out one night at conference, I was tired and didn’t want to spend the money so I stayed back. When I thought about sitting in the hotel room alone after spending the money to be there, I decided to join them. Turns out, they reserved a stretch Hummer instead of a taxi. I had never ridden in a limo before, let alone a stretch Hummer! I would have missed that opportunity if I hadn’t said yes. Plus, I had a great conversation with one of the leaders that I normally wouldn’t get a chance to talk to!

Then I got to participate in writing this book! Since grade school, I have always wanted to be an author. Somewhere along the way, I stopped writing. I still have all of my poems and short stories from when I was in school. So, writing this book was huge for me!

Thirteen years ago, I looked into real estate classes but decided it would take too much of my time. I wanted to start a real estate holding company. Several years later, I worked up the courage to take some classes and purchase a foreclosure property in Daytona Beach sight unseen. This past week, I made an offer on a wholesale property, and it was accepted. This is my first step in making that dream come true. What I realized is that each one of these experiences has opened me up more to the next one!

I am so excited for what is to come! I just can’t believe how much my life has changed in the last six months! Just wanted to share that with you! Thank you for the opportunity and for the encouragement!

Each Step Moves You Closer To Your Dream

Kathi is right! Each step we make toward our dream prepares us for the next one. As you take small steps out of your comfort zone, you expand what is comfortable and familiar. You prove to yourself that you are learning, growing, and succeeding in life, and that motivates you to take another step. I love to support people as they go after their dreams, and Kathi has certainly done that! I was beyond ecstatic when she updated me earlier this year on the progress of her real estate dream. She has found her passion and also discovered a way to make a difference for others. One Degree Shift is a community for difference makers to find their voices and move through the things that have restrained them in the past so they can leave their mark in the world. The accountability, coaching & teaching, support, and friendship enables you to go after your dreams with greater confidence. clarity, and momentum.

Hi Cassandra,

I figured I’d put this in an email instead of posting in our private group. I’m working on something exciting! As you know, I have been buying houses, rehabbing, and renting them. I’ve done two so far. Well… I decided to step up my game. I made offers on two more houses and they were both accepted! So far I’ve rented each of the finished properties to single moms. I’m still looking for my niche for helping people, but in both cases, they were in a bad situation and I helped them get out.

I am scared to death of doing two houses at once, but I can’t wait! I need 10 houses in order to be financially free. My goal was to do four this year, but I’m hoping to double that! Then I’ll have more choices. I have been able to offer financial help to people this year. A family had several tragedies around Thanksgiving, and I was able to make a nice donation. I’ve also committed to being a partner this year with St Jude. I can really see this all coming together! All of the seminars on how to make this work are paying off. I’m following them step by step. People who at first thought I was crazy are now starting to think they should be doing it too!

As I said on our coaching call yesterday, breaking things into smaller steps is immensely helpful, but equally important is having someone to be accountable to. So when you ask us to share our intention, it’s easy to tell ourselves we will do something and not follow through. I don’t think it’s as easy to tell you we will do something and not follow through. I just wanted to take a minute to appreciate you! Thanks for all you do!

Reclaim The Courage To Follow Your Heart

Kathi’s courage is evident, and step by step she is living her dream! Recently, I posted this Steve Job’s quote in our One Degree Shift private group and asked members to share their thoughts.

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma, which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other’s opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.” — Steve Jobs

Kathi replied, “It’s taken me many years to understand this. Now I am hell-bent on making up for lost time!” She understands that we are here to make a unique contribution to the world. And, because you’re still here, that means you have a lot more good to offer too. Don’t sit on the sidelines. We need you!

Kathi certainly recognizes her impact. She posted an update about one of her latest properties, “In two weeks time, the outside of the house has become unrecognizable! It is slowly coming back to the beautiful piece of property [it once was]. So much so that neighbors have stopped by to thank us for what we are doing! We are making a difference for those neighbors and for the new tenants when it’s ready!”

I share Kathi’s success because I want you to know that, like her, you are here for a purpose. And, it is never too late to discover the reason why. You are here to live a life of fulfillment, success, and meaning. Today, in this moment, decide to reclaim your dreams and your confidence to make a difference in this world. Don’t hold back! As you live your dreams, you too will contribute to others in meaningful ways. And, I’d love to support you too! Join me and One Degree Shift today and we’ll help you live your dreams too.

Leave a comment below and tell us what you are committed to do this year to improve your life or make a difference for others. Will you step out of your comfort zone? Will you say “Yes” to something you know will stretch and develop you? Will you practice faith in yourself or develop your courage muscle? Tell us!
