Are you a dreamer? I suspect you are! All of us have the ability to dream — to imagine what’s possible and to hope for something more, but it takes courage to make your dream come true.

Courage is the most important quality of Difference Makers. Without it, you cannot achieve your big goals and dreams. Pursuing your purpose takes courage. What is it? Courage is the attitude that provokes you to action even when you are afraid. Yes, afraid! You wouldn’t need courage if you didn’t have fear. Nelson Mandela, a brave activist, explained it this way, “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Some people won’t dream because they are afraid it may require them to do something. Some have dreams but won’t take action because they are afraid they may fail at something. Some follow their dreams and passions but give up because they are afraid it might cost them something. Don’t let fear stop you. (Remember… Fear is 100 percent imaginary. Be courageous! Connect to your dream, to your purpose, and you will activate the courage that is already inside of you. When you do, you will realize your true potential.

  1. Think of a time when you were successful even though you were afraid. How can you apply what you learned in that situation to build your courage today.
  2. What would you do if you had 5% more courage? What is the smallest step you can take in the direction of your dream?
  3. Repeat this affirmation: The courage to accomplish my dream is already inside of me.

As your coach, I’m here to personally assist you in realizing your dreams. The world needs you — your vision, your passion, and your voice. Contributing Author Lourdes Brown is a visionary with a creative eye and down-to-earth pragmatism which enables her to catapult ideas into viable opportunities. As founder of Ideas Move the World, Lourdes serves others by helping them bring their ideas to market. In her chapter, Lourdes chronicles her courageous journey to pursue her heart’s desire. Her advice to you, “I believe we are all born with equal amounts of courage, but somewhere in life we get stuck… in situations that make us unhappy and unfulfilled. And we justify it, thinking that’s just life… we just have to deal with it. To that I say, No, we don’t. We are only given one life for which we are lucky to have, in turn it is our responsibility to feel joy, love, fulfillment, and compassion for others — to live in our greatest capacity. It begins with the courage to do what makes you happy.” — Lourdes Brown, Courage is Like Helium – Fill Your Soul and Fly
