We all need a little encouragement every now and then. To encourage a sister means to fill her with courage, to raise her confidence, to give her hope. We could all use a little of that, right?
One Degree Shift is a community of encouragers, but even we need encouragement. So, I try to share a dose of motivation with them every week. Whether I share something to energize them or to help them get through a challenge or simply to remind them of all of their awesomeness, I make deliberate words of encouragement part of our community culture to keep motivated in life.
We Need Encouragement to Persevere in Life
We need encouragement to keep going, to try again, and to make amazing things happen. Encouragement is key to building our confidence, our growth, and our success. Without it, we can feel like giving up.
Recently, I shared a collection of positive sayings to encourage members to lift up their heads and believe in their ability to persevere in life. I hope these words will inspire you too.
Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.
Successful people do that… they keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.
Why? Just because you fail once, doesn’t mean you’re gonna fail at everything. So, keep trying, hold on, and always, always, always believe in yourself.
It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.
And, if you are going through hell right now, keep going. You will get through it, if you do not stop.
Keep your head high, keep your chin up, and keep your nose at a friendly level.
Most importantly, keep smiling, because life’s a beautiful thing and there’s so much to smile about.
Yes, keep your head up. And remember that God gives his hardest battles to his strongest solider.
I know you’ll make it, if you try again. There’s no use in quitting, when the world is waiting for you. You are here to make a difference.
So, never, never, never give in!
Why We Absolutely Need Each Other to Live a Thriving Life
We are not designed to do life alone. We can not thrive in life without an encouraging community. In fact, our connection with others and their positive support gives us what we need to grow into powerful influencers.
Here are three powerful ways to persevere so you can make the difference you are meant to make:
- Remind yourself that failure is part of success. Fear of failure kept me playing small and always an arm’s length away from my dreams. Big steps seemed too risky, so I took safe, low-payoff steps and only made investments I could stand to lose (which wasn’t very much). I would barely do anything unless I was almost certain it was a sure thing. I avoided failure at all costs. What helped me to make a shift was understanding that success is a learned behavior. Our biggest failure can lead to our greatest teaching. So, embrace setbacks as opportunities to learn. This lesson reminds me of a favorite Einstein quote shared by One Degree Shift member, Priya Sweetenburg,”Failure is success in progress.” I like that!
- Do the inside work. Success is not always what you see. My personal coach often says, “Without the inside work… the outside doesn’t.” Through most of my private coaching programs, I help clients address the inside blocks to their success and to live their purpose. Quite often it is not the outside things that stop us, but it’s the limiting beliefs, doubts, fears, and dis-empowering stories inside of us that hold us back.
- Don’t go it alone. We all have a need to belong, to feel appreciated and wanted, to feel worthy, and to make a difference. We are wired to connect, and we thrive when we feel supported by others. If you want to live more meaningful and purposeful than ever before, don’t do it alone. In fact, you were never meant to. While having a personal development coach can make it easier to achieve your goals and dreams, it is possible to make changes in your life by dedicating yourself to learning and surrounding yourself with a supportive community. We can get lost in our own heads, so sistering is an effective strategy for living an empowered and successful life. This Helen Keller quote sums up my coaching philosophy.
