How to Live Your Highest Intentions in the New Year

Are you living in harmony with your best life?

You’ll know it when you are because you are in step with your passion, living on purpose, and brimming with the excitement and joy that fulfillment brings. But, it is impossible to enjoy the fullness of life or make the difference you are meant to make when you mute your voice, hide your genius, shrink in fear, or betray your purpose.

Here’s the solution. When you connect with your vision and find alignment with your highest intentions and purpose, you will live your best life while making a significant difference in the world around you. This is your calling!

On the first Wednesday of every month, I offer a free 30-minute coaching call that I coined Wednesday WOW! As a life transformation coach, I guide my clients to live a divinely guided life… a life they love. My desire is to support as many people as I can to live in harmony with their best life. It is my intention on these calls to deliver maximum value. I hope you will join me and continue to engage throughout the year.

Setting a Clear Intention in the New Year is Powerful

My Wednesday WOW! this month taught the power and importance of intention.

Without intention, we can wander around without meaning or direction in our life. Instead of living life from the inside-out and allowing your heart’s desire to direct every area of your life, you live life by default from the outside-in. Meaning, whatever happens outside of you can persuade you to change course or stop you altogether. But with intention even the most impossible is possible.

A simple definition for intention is to aim, steer, or direct your life. It is to have in mind a purpose or plan or to reach for something.

“Our intention is everything. Nothing happens on this planet without it. Not one single thing has ever been accomplished without intention.” — Jim Carey

Intention is a powerful tool to help you align with your purpose and create the life you really want. Nothing happens without it, not even wiggling your toes. In setting any intention, you are making it clear to yourself and to others exactly what you want or plan to do.

In order to set a clear intention for 2017 and chart a clear course, you must know what you want. How do you want to be? What is an outcome you want to create? Spend some time listening to what comes up as you ask yourself these questions.

3 Steps to Set Powerful Intentions That Will Not Fail

In order to prepare my One Degree Shift community for success in the New Year, I led them through a quick exercise created by Deepak Chopra in his book, The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. Chopra says, “Intention and desire have infinite organizing power, and when we set an intention we put this organizing power to work for us.”

  1. The first step is to make a list of all your desires. Put your heart’s desires on paper. Write them all down. At this point, don’t concern yourself with how you will make it happen, or what you ought to do or should do. Simply answer the question, “What do I desire?” If you want to live your best life, a divinely guided life, making the difference you are meant to make in this world, you must have a practice of hearing from the Divine that speaks through your heart. (Just a side note: You can up-level your spiritual practices in my Discover Your Purpose program.)
  2. Once you create your list, carry it with you wherever you go. Look at it before you go into prayer or into your silence and meditation, before you go to sleep at night, and when you wake up in the morning. Meditate on your desires so your brain can integrate them into your actions. Share your list of desires with someone who is supportive and can hold you accountable to take action. Declare exactly what you want. Declaring your intention or sharing your dreams gets your energy moving.
  3. Finally, take action. This demonstrates that you are serious about your intention. Do something WOW (within one week) to solidify your intention.  As you take action, trust that there is a power greater than you to orchestrate the complete fulfillment of your intentions.

That’s how you put the power of intention to work for you this year.

Confusion is the Worst Enemy to Your Dreams

For some, setting an intention, any intention at all, is the hardest step.

It’s fine to be vague in the beginning — when you are in the early, creative imagination phase. It’s even useful for some people to remain vague while they try out and explore different options. But remaining vague is a pattern that can sabotage you, leading to confusion, inactivity, and stagnation.

My coach Marcia Wieder says, “For many of us, our joy, dreams or deep desires signal a predetermined internal response that says, STOP! For some, their dream dies within an instant of that response.”

This is why One Degree Shift community is important. We need the support, encouragement, and safety to speak our intentions and dreams and then take action to make them a reality. As you become clear about your dreams and intentions, you will attract like-minded individuals. You will build life-long relationships, partnerships, and friendships. My intention is that you gain clarity on how you want the next year of your life to be. As I do with my clients, I encourage you to identify at least one dream you want to work on this year. Then ask for help and make specific requests to create a winning Dream Team around you to make your dream more easily attainable.

Make Your Best Intention to Live Your Heart’s Desire This Year

Declare your intentions first, then build your life on top of them.

Set an intention for something you really want, something you are passionate about. Be sure you are as clear as possible. Try to keep it simple. Do you want to work less and make more money, or to find a new career that you are passionate about? Maybe you want to get healthy and physically fit, or to spend more quality time with loved ones or alone. It may be about something or someone in particular or about a quality in life such as being more relaxed.

Close your eyes and gently touch your heart to activate it. Feel what you want, what you need, what matters to you. Who do you imagine you will be or how might your life be different when you fulfill this intention?

Put it up in your office or someplace where you can see it and strive to be the best you can be. I posted my intention statement on Facebook just to show you an example. My post also gives you and easy fill-in-the-blank structure that will help you easily create your own frameable intention statement.

Leave a comment below and state in a few sentences what you plan to do, create, or change in 2017.

Don’t go it alone! I would love to support you, keep you encouraged all year long, moving forward on the things that matter most to you, and creating a life you love. Sign up for my free Wednesday WOW! coaching call so I can connect with you live and lead you to a transformed life. Thanks for putting this down in a blog. I can hear your voice saying this as I read it with my eyes. Having an intention is very important, especially for me. Living alone, I need to keep myself accountable for the things I am meant to do. The things God puts before me. I am excited (intend) to do more for God this year by helping those who identify as gay Christians. For God called us to love one another.

Sue, I’m glad you are part of One Degree Shift and I’ve enjoyed coaching you over the last 2 years. Wow, it’s been that long? I’m especially happy that we’ve developed a friendship too. You have accepted a big mission, but God couldn’t have called a better heart for the cause! Thanks for declaring your intentions here.
